About
I was raised a Pittsburgh Pirate and a Penn State Nittany Lion fan in New Jersey. I was born in ‘73, so my memories of the Pirates as a child are not fond - lots of abuse by Mets and Phillies fans. I lived in Philly in the mid-90’s and enjoyed the Phillies and Eagles of the time. I was fortunate enough to be at the deciding games of the ‘96 and ‘03 World Series in the Bronx (and feel a little guilty about it because I have never been a Yankee fan, although I did follow the ‘96 team very closely). Then I moved to San Francisco and learned to root for the Giants. For the last 7 years I have lived in New York City. I now get the Directv baseball package and follow my Bucco’s…and then MLB. Despite being from the East, and living in the East, I will be the first one to admit that East Coast Bias does exist, and I see my years out in CA as a great time of exposure for my baseball knowledge.
I also should note that I have gone cross-country each of the past two summers, stopping at national parks and baseball stadiums. There are multiple posts in that, but I can start the fight by saying Pac Bell (they can call it whatever they want, it will always be the “Belle by the Bay” to me), PNC Park, and Camden Yards are the top three parks in the league. The Rockies Park is very under-rated at sunset, as is Royals’ Kaufman Stadium (I was there on George Brett bobblehead night!). Great American (Reds) and Citzens Bank (Phillies) were big disappointments, but do not compare to the disaster the Mets are closing this year.
College football will be covered in the fall. I will focus on the major conferences, but count on comments about the ridiculous BCS system and notes on the weeknight games. I was raised at Beaver Stadium by my alumae grandparents, but have been up to Syracuse, down to Maryland, out to Notre Dame (which is just a special place), and to several bowl games. Count on shots at Notre Dame - I am still bitter at the reasoning for firing Willingham, and the credit Weis gets for having a weak schedule his first year. I don’t hate Weis, I hate that Willingham got crucified for having a tough schedule, and Weis excused for the same last year. Charlie has still yet to win a big game.
Having gone to Villanova, we will get some college hoops in too, but be ready for following the Big 5 (Philly traditionalist) and the WCC (the Atlantic 10 of the West).
In closing, I follow the New York Rangers and the NHL, but have struggled to get back into it after the lockout. I am always open to blasting the most popular male soap opera - the NBA. I cover the English Premier League on footieworld.net. Might help you to know that I coached a whole bunch of sports on the high school level for a mess of years, in a number of places…just for perspective.
Hope you enjoy!
